Hofstra University is a dynamic, private university where students succeed and study in more than 155 undergraduate and 170 graduate programs of study. The major divisions of the University provide students with a broad array of academic offerings: the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Herbert School of Communication, the Zarb School of Business, the School of Education, the School of Health Professions and Human Services, the School of Engineering & Applied Science, the Maurice A. Dean School of Law, Honors College, Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine and Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.
A student-faculty ratio of 13-to-1 and an average class size of 21 allow professors to teach small classes that emphasize interaction, critical thinking, and analysis. Hofstra’s students are motivated and success-oriented, and Hofstra provides the resources they need to reach their goals: an outstanding faculty, extensive academic resources and state-of-the art facilities. Internships that take advantage of the proximity of New York City and special programs are designed to develop individual student’s interests and abilities. Hofstra faculty is one of its greatest resources. Ninety-two percent of full-time faculty members hold the highest degree in their fields. Faculty members are dedicated to excellence in teaching scholarship and research, and many have been recognized with the nation’s higher academic honors, including membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships, National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities awards, and Emmy Awards. Hofstra’s distinctive, 240-acre campus, a recognized arboretum, is located 25 miles from New York City. The campus features state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including a converged newsroom and multimedia classroom, one pf the most advanced trading rooms in the nation, six theatres and a rooftop observatory. The Hofstra libraries provide 24/7 electronic access to more than 75,000 full-text journals and 160,000 electronic books and contain over 1 million print volumes. Additionally, there are 35 residence halls, 18 eateries, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and extensive athletic and fitness facilities.
